If you’re concerned about the presence of radon inside your home, then a simple radon testing will help you solve the issue. Basically, a radon test is a simple yet inexpensive test which will provide you with a peace of mind – either for a prospective house purchase or an existing home of yours.

It should be realised that radon is an odourless and invisible radioactive gas that is released from the earth, from an element known as Radium. Radium is obtained from Uranium. You must know that radon build-up can occur inside any home – it doesn’t matter if it’s well-maintained or not. However, the overall levels will vary from one home to another – even if they are situated next to each other. Keeping the same in intention, in this article, we are going to find the harmful effects of radon. Moreover, we are also going to find whether your home requires a radon testing using professional home inspection in Arvada services.

What Are The Negative Effects Of Radon?

You must know that higher levels of radon can quickly increase the risks of lung cancer in human beings. According to reports, more than 90 per cent of lung cancer patients are directly related to smoking. It has been seen that exposure to radon has lead to 16 per cent of human being death due to lung cancer – across the world. Furthermore, researchers say that it’s the second-most popular reason lung cancer after smoking.

Estimation says that if any non-smoker is exposed to high levels of radon over his or her lifetime, then that person has about 5 per cent chance of dying from lung cancer. The same percentage increases to 33.33 per cent if the person is already a smoker.

From Where Do Radon Gas Enter A Home?

As a homeowner, you must learn that radon gas can build-up over time inside your house without you knowing and the moment you notice it – it will become a severe problem. The radon levels inside your home will depend on the following factors:

  • The amount of Uranium that is present in the earth beneath your home.
  • The number of entry point your home has.
  • The way your home is ventilated.

Some of the possible radon gas entry points are:

  • Dirt floors.
  • Construction joints inside your home.
  • Floor drains.
  • Any cracks in the establishment of the home.
  • Window casements.
  • Gaps in-between service pipes.

How Do Radon Testing Is Carried Out?

Radon testing is done in two procedures:

  • 48-hour test.
  • 90-day test.

The 48-hour test will first let the homeowner know whether there is any presence of radon. If there is any presence, then the more comprehensive 90-day trial will be carried out.
